McBlaine Still in Debt
BY BELINDA BREMNER

Just like the rumors of Mark Twain's death, the notice that McBlaine had settled all their outstanding debts was premature. Well intentioned last minute additions to this column conveyed an impression that all was peace in the valley. Just to clarify, there are many folks still waiting for payment, or payments, which actually clear the bank. My suggestion to those still seeking compensation is that they contact the now chastened agency and make specific arrangements for outstanding payment. Alas, with agencies that are not union franchised, the actors only recourse—other than going to a lawyer—is to contact the Illinois Department of Labor and the Better Business Bureau.

Once again, hats off to the actors who banded together to bell the cat. All too often we actors sit about moping and complaining instead of taking direct action. A very good example has been set.

More good news from the Illinois Film Office. Ice Harvest is still shooting, although Weatherman and Oceans 12 have wrapped. The Bob Tittle and George Tillman (Barber Shop) feature Roll, Bounce and the new Batman sequel, The Intimidation Game, will both start shooting here in mid-July. Amityville Horror will start shooting in the Waukegan area about that time as well. The director of the MGM feature is Brit Andrew Douglas, who has directed several award winning commercials and documentaries, most notably Wrong-eyed Jesus. Among the independent film shooting in town is Dee Dee Rutherford directed by Mike Meiner of Diet fame. AND, there’s scouting for fall! What a much better year this is turning out to be!

When "ER" checked in recently, Jane Alderman was, of course, in charge of the local casting. Booked were Lacy Coil, Bruce Jarchow, Frank Zeiger, Richard Lexsee, Lorenzo Clemons, and Danny McCarthy. Jane is currently at work casting eight commercial spots for David Cranfill, as well as conducting a search for CBS Daytime.

Tenner Paskal Rudnicke will be doing the casting for Ammityville Horror, as well as casting for Project Greenlight finalists Scott Smith and Duane Edwards as they cast their final short films for that competition. Recent other projects have included jobs for Chevy, Avpro, Digiorno’s, Russell Athletic, and Popeye’s Chicken. Recent bookings went to Rob Bundy, Lisa Brooke, Emily Churchill, Katie Crawford, Madison Dirks, and Frank Caeti.

We’ll catch up with Claire Simon and crew in the next issue.

Agents and casting directors implore actors to remember to book out for those summer jaunts to the Dells and to watch the sun exposure.

Peace
