Rumors are Swirling: Strike is Certain
BY BELINDA BREMNER

By the time this issue of PerformInk hits the streets, much about the SAG hearings will be revealed. And, the oft quoted Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times" seems very appropriate here. It will indeed be interesting to watch how all parties involved behave throughout the duration of the strike.

Will franchised agents and casting directors take work from clients who are/were signatory? Will there be a non-union boom? Will SAG members turn scab if the strike drags on? Will the Canadians, as promised, honor our strike? What will the consequences be of anyone not doing the honorable thing? The only thing not in question is that this is a very small town. Word gets around quickly and we all have very long memories. In this increasingly disposable world, it would be nice to believe that people still value their word. Watch and wait.

More certain is what’s shooting in town. The season finale of "Early Edition" just shot and "ER" was recently in town. "Silent Witness" has also wrapped. What Women Want has just begun to roll and Novacaine is in works. Now come the semi-definite, sorta kinda semi-definite and maybe projects. A definite maybe is Thursday Night for Dreamworks with Bob Zemmeckis. A semi-definite maybe is Waiting For Michael with Ray Romano and Bridget Fonda for Fox. There is talk that we may get some part of the new Jennifer Lopez film Angel Eyes. And remember Hardball from last year? Well, Paramount is talking about it again. Scouting continues for the Joan Cusack show. Keep your fingers crossed.

Jane Alderman Casting already cast the season finale episode of "Early Edition" as well as "ER." She completed the midwest search for a James Dean and finalized the casting for "Silent Witness." And, don’t forget that Novacaine is her project as well.

Several commercials were on the books at Brody Tenner Paskal. They also worked on the pilot "Street Smarts." And, on the big screen–What Women Want and an independent feature.

Getting into show business is said to be difficult. It may be even trickier than usual over at Holly Rik Heitz. The space has been reconfigured with a new door to boot.
