| A List BY SEAN GRANEY Good theatre satisfies the emotions and the intellect. It is honest in its emotional connection to its character. It is a challenge for the audience and the performers. It tells a story, no matter how oblique. It is visually and aurally unique, but always in support of the script. Good theatre sticks with you for a long time after the experience. Good theatre inspires you to be a better person, even if it is ever so slight. Good theatre frightens and entertains. Good theatre respects the audience. Good theatre cannot be fully explained or planned; it is art and art is unpredictable. Good theatre is an event in and of itself. It is representational and it is actual. Sean Graney is the artistic director of The Hypocrites. |
